Gifts of The Spirit

"A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other." 1 Corinthians 12:7
Last week, I wrote about the fruit of the Spirit. Those are the things we should be doing because we are Christians. The fruit of the Spirit is about character, the gifts of the Spirit is about power.
Now, I'd like to talk about the gifts of the Spirit. Notice "Gifts" is plural. There are several.
Are you familiar with these gifts? Have you ever been taught things about them?
I am so excited by what I have been learning! I want everyone to figure out what their gifts are and use them. Just like the Scripture posted about says, these gifts are to help each other.
So, let's dive into the rest of these Scriptures:
1 Corinthians 12: 8-11 NIV says, " To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines."
When you ask Jesus into your life, and confess Him as your Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit comes into your life to reside with you. He is the "Comforter", "Teacher" and "Helper" that Jesus referred to in the Bible. He told them He had to leave but He was sending this person to help them.
These gifts come along with Him, but most of us know little to nothing about them.
My best friend and I have been doing a Bible study together. I've mentioned it a few times.... but it's so good.
It's my prayer that this type of stuff doesn't scare you, because it shouldn't. These gifts are given to us so that we can help each other and grow God's Kingdom.
Through this study, I discovered why I love my job so much. (And why I loved working at the other church I worked at.)
God has given me the gift of Helps. It is listed in verses 27-31 in this same Chapter:
"27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.28 And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues[d]? Do all interpret? 31 Now eagerly desire the greater gifts."
Someone with the gift of helps is made to support the Pastors at a local church. My Bible study book says it this way, "Their function is as a supportive role to those called to the ministry."
I have always felt like I was using all of my gifts and talents while working at a church, and now I know why!
These all seem somewhat odd if you've never learned about them, so I think I will do a blog post series where we can break down each gift and learn more. How does that sound?
I hope you'll join me!
God bless you today and always!
