The Names of Jesus

Isaiah 9:6 says, "For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

This time of year can really help you grow in your relationship with God, if you let it. Instead of getting caught up in the worldly part of Christmas, you can take time to really reflect on what the true meaning is.

Yesterday, my Pastor taught about Jesus being our Wonderful Counselor.

This isn't JUST a name. It is who Jesus is. A counselor is someone we go to for help. They can diagnose our problem, are able to look objectively at our situation to give us advice, and they provide the appropriate prescription for our issues.

Jesus does all of this for us, if we allow Him to. You see, Jesus looks at our hearts... He already knows what's there. Someone who over eats, might think they are just over eating but Jesus has the ability to realize the truth that they are trying to comfort themselves with the food. He can diagnose that easily. If you have an issue that is a cycle for you, ask Him to help you figure out why you are doing it so you can stop.

Even though He loves us unconditionally, Jesus will still look objectively at our situations. His advice comes from the Holy Spirit and His Word. We need to be in prayer to Him about things, so He can communicate with us about it. Ask Him for help. Tell Him what you are dealing with and He will provide the advice you need.

When we think about prescriptions, we usually think about medicine. Jesus through a doctor, could provide you medicine. However, He has other prescriptions already in place for us. For example: people like me who tend to worry too much, Jesus provides us with Matthew 6: 25-34 telling us not to worry about anything. God provides for the birds of the air, so why wouldn't He provide for us? 

My Pastor said, "The miracle of salvation is we come to Him and He points us to God. Let our ears listen to what the Spirit is saying. Listen as He reminds us who we are and WHO's we are in this Christmas Season."

I want to draw closer to Him, don't you?

One thing I've been doing is reading these Scriptures. Some friends of mine posted it on Facebook, so I've been writing them daily. I know we are already a week in, but you can catch up. It will help you focus your heart on the real reason for Christmas.

Jesus is the answer to all of life's issues. He is our Wonderful Counselor and so much more!
