Can't Is a DANGEROUS word!

Well, this is going to be a very personal blog post. I am NOT writing to toot my own horn or for attention. I am writing this to show you that can't is a dangerous word.

Back in 2010, I was overweight, unhappy, and just down right miserable. I did not think I could lose weight. I have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome. One of the main issues with it is weight in the middle. (That's just one of many!) I thought it wasn't even worth trying.

Then, my friend Jennifer from church convinced me to go to church one night and try a Zumba with Susie class. I was hooked! It was so fun and I didn't feel like I was actually exercising. That was in 2012. I attended her class for 6 months, from January to June, then she moved away.

That fall was when my marriage started to crumble. I was stressed beyond belief and Lord knows I wish I would have found a Zumba class before I did. In November or December I found Detrell's company. I joined and that class helped me through my divorce. I was attending their day time classes, but had to get a job... so that put me in the evening classes. Fast forward to fall of 2014, I became closer friends with Barbara and Reggie from Zumba. I helped with their wedding. They opened their own studio and I went to it. They have been amazing friends. They support me, encourage me, and get on to me when I need it. "You aren't moving fast enough Jill." "Your plank isn't right, get your butt down, Jill" LOL BUT.. I hear, "We are so proud of you, you are doing a great job." and, "We see something in you that you can't even see." also.

Yesterday I was reading some more in my friend Matthew Ham's book, "Redefine Rich"... something jumped out at me.

Barbara and Reggie always say, "Don't say can't in our studio." They just don't believe can't is a good word when it comes to trying to better yourself.

Matthew says this in his book, "The word can't is a very dangerous one. Can't squashes hope, and hope is the very thing opportunity is made of. Can't limits possibility and draws us into thinking from a negative perspective, rather than a positive one."

Here is a great one: "Instead of believing you can't, do something new."

This past Easter, my cousin snapped a picture of us without us knowing... I was sick to my stomach by what I saw. I got busy. I started logging my food in My Fitness Pal. I stopped drinking Mountain Dew. (Even though it was only one a day, it's a ton of sugar.) I started attending Reggie's cardio kick boxing/ toning class on Tuesdays and Thursdays after Zumba. It's not a dramatic difference, but it's still a difference. Barbara even went as far as researching PCOS, and she said, "You can do it, it's just that you have to work harder than the rest of us." Well, with their help, I have worked hard and seen results.

Stop saying you "can't" do something... because like that old study helping guide back in the 80's says, "Where there is a will, there is a way."

Yes, I have hormones fighting against me. No, I'm not on any medicine to help. It's just been honest hard work. We CAN do it... you know why we CAN do anything??

Because we CAN do anything through Christ who gives us strength.

Not a few things. Not just some things, but ANYTHING!

God loves you, and He wants you to be the best you possible. He will help you. Just like He has helped me. I believe with all of my heart that He put these people in my life right when I needed them most.

Yes, God is even concerned with your health. He wants your heart right and loving Him.. but He wants your body healthy too. If you are healthy, you can serve Him and show people His love.

What are you waiting for?

Whatever you've been saying you can't do... STOP IT! Because I believe you CAN!

  1. Way to go! You can do this! Our own belief in ourselves is what changes our future and makes a difference in the world.
