Take Time To Rest!

Sunday, our Youth Pastor spoke. We started a new message series called
"Running on Empty"

Josh taught on resting. It was a very interesting message.

Yesterday, in one of the groups I'm in on Facebook, a lady asked for prayer requests.
One over-riding theme I noticed is people needed rest.

Josh made two key points:

1. The Sabbath is woven into the fabric of creation.

2. The Sabbath has a way of spilling over into every part of your life.

The word Sabbath means "to cease". It is the 4th Commandment of the 10 that God made for us.

When God created the heavens the earth, He worked 6 days, then rested on the 7th.

God was not resting because He NEEDED to. He was resting to show us an example of how to live. He only gave us 24 hours in a day because we couldn't handle anymore. Our frail minds and bodies need rest.

In Mark 2:27 Jesus said this, "27 Then Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath."

The Sabbath was made for us. So why do you disobey it?

"Jill, you don't know how busy and hectic my life is."
"Jill, I'm a single parent, I don't have time rest."

Don't give me those excuses. You don't rest because you don't intentionally make yourself rest. You know what happens to a car when it runs out of gas over and over?
You ruin the gas lines and the engine.

When a person just run, run, runs, and doesn't rest, their mind, body and spirit break down.
You were designed by your Creator to rest!
Yet again, He is not a robot controlling Creator, so He isn't forcing us to. But, He led by example. He showed us what is best for us and we just continue to do our own thing.

STOP IT!

Pick a day of the week. ANY DAY! Then rest!

Unplug, turn off your cell phone, tv, music, etc. Just rest and relax.

God loves us so much and He created the Sabbath for us. Will you please stop ignoring it?

You will be glad when you start taking a day of rest. I'm sure of it!
