Perfect Is a Punk!

A writer and speaker I admire put out a New Year's challenge to our 30 Days of Hustle group. He has a new book coming out called Do Over. So, he issued a #DoOverChallenge to us.

We were to pick something we wanted to "do over" and go for it. He sent us a PDF with something to read & questions to answer, every day for 10 days and we should take 10 minutes a day to do our do over.

I need to do over my house!

I want to live with less because, honestly, I have too much..and it stays messy.
(I also have 3 kids who help keep it a mess!)

Jon Acuff is the writer and speaker. In one of the day's questions and reading..he talked about how we don't have to be perfect. If we haven't kept up with the daily reading and questions, then that's ok.

"Perfect is a punk!" he said. Don't let it bully you!

A lot of times, if things aren't perfect, we tend to give up. You don't have to be perfect.

Only Jesus was perfect, and of course, God is pretty perfect too.

One thing that comes to mind when I hear the word perfect is the Scripture, "Perfect love casts our fear." The opposite of fear is love. Fear sometimes causes us to struggle with perfectionism. We are afraid we won't be like everyone else.

Isn't that the point? We shouldn't be like everyone else!

For Christians, we are called to be salt and light in the world. Romans 12: 1 & 2 tells us to not be conformed to the world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. That means stop trying to be like the perfect worldly human being... just be the you that loves God and lives for Him.

Do you struggle with perfectionism?

Do you have to have everything just perfect?

Stop.

Life happens... nothing in life is perfect. Ever. Honestly, that's ok. In the long run, you are hurting yourself if you continue trying to be perfect.
