Are you a prisoner?

"Forgiveness is the key that unlocks the door of resentment and the handcuffs of hate. It is a power that breaks the chains of bitterness and the shackles of selfishness." ~ Corrie Ten Boom

Corrie Ten Boom was a woman who grew up in Holland. Her family were Christians who helped people who were being hunted by the Nazi's during World War 2. She and her family were arrested and spent time in prison for what they did.

If anyone had a right to harbor unforgiveness, it was her. She could have hated the Nazis so much for coming into her country and hurting people. She could have resented her prison time and just turned into a cold hearted woman. But with Christ in her, that wasn't going to happen.

Eventually, she wrote about her experiences and shared them with the world.

While she became an actual prisoner for what she did, she was never a prisoner in her heart.

Are you a prisoner?

What unforgiveness are you holding back?

Forgiveness does not mean that what happened to you was right. It does not mean that you have to be best friends with the person who hurt you. It simply means that you no longer give that person power over you. You let them go in your heart, and move on. Pray for them! People who hurt others out of selfishness NEED our prayers.

Yesterday, the "Pastor" of Westboro Baptist Church died. (I use that term Pastor loosely.)This man has a church that is so hateful. They spew hate and anger everywhere they go. They claim that God does not love gay people and they picket at soldiers funerals. That's not love. God is love. There are probably many people that are happy he has died. BUT, that's just as wrong as what he did. That man and his "church" need forgiveness. Saying we are glad he is dead is just as wrong as what they do.

We will always have people in our lives that do not treat us right. We will always hear things about others that just really get it us, like the Westboro people. Hate and unforgiveness get you no where fast!

Who do you need to forgive today?
