Finding Security in God

The devotional that I read this morning was about finding security in God. It was from Isaiah and it was directed at women. Isaiah 32: 9 says, "You women who are so complacent, rise up and listen to me; you daughters who feel secure, hear what I have to say." He wanted to warn them of what was about to happen and let them know that their own security was about to be shattered by the awful Assyrians.

There are many things that can make us "feel secure". For some people, it's their looks & weight. They work hard to look good, because it makes them feel secure. Others want to hear words of affirmation and have a pat on the back for a job well done. Then, of course, there are the money people who only feel secure with a certain amount in the bank, or their wallet. They have stocks and a portfolio and such... probably even a huge savings account for their future.

I'm not saying these things are wrong. However, they are wrong when you trust in them more than you do God. Being healthy is smart, however, if you are obsessed with it, you aren't trusting God. Wanting people to compliment you on something you've done isn't bad in and of itself, but if your day is ruined because no one complimented you all day, you've got a problem. Money isn't bad. We need it. But the love of money is talked about in the Bible and our security shouldn't be in it.

1 Timothy 6: 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Hebrews 13: 5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Putting our trust in THE God who created and controls the universe is smarter than trying to find security anywhere else or from any one else.
