Grief is hard
Matthew 5:4, “Blessed
are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
One day, as I pumped gas in my car, I
looked down the road a little and saw a place that makes grave stones. There
was an older couple outside looking through the examples the company has.
It was just after Thanksgiving and close
to Christmas, and this is what they were doing. Picking out a gravestone. The
thought came to me about how short this life really is.
You could wake up tomorrow and lose a
loved one. Losing loved ones is always hard. But there is something about the
holidays that just makes it worse.
We lost my Granddaddy two days before
Christmas in 1992. We buried him on Christmas Eve. It has always cast a shadow
over my holiday since. He was a fun person to be around. I was 18 when he
passed, so my children never got to know him.
If you are a Christ follower, when you
pass away, your soul goes to Heaven right away. To be absent from the body is
to be present with the Lord if you are a Christ follower. That's GOOD NEWS! (2
Corinthians 5:8)
When someone you love passes away, it is
difficult. You feel sad because you think about the memories you have and the
times you will never get again. But think about this, death is not the end!
Today’s
Challenge: Pray for someone today that is missing a
loved one. Maybe they just lost this loved one recently, maybe it’s been years.
Pray for them to get through it. Our God is gracious and He has promised to
comfort those who mourn. He always keeps
His promises!
