Who Is The Holy Spirit?

One of the sections in the Prayer Conference booklet (from the conference I attended at work) is called "Praying in the Spirit".

I wanted to tell you a few things from it and Scripture because I think the Holy Spirit can be misunderstood.

In John 15 starting in verse 5, my Bible has it titled, "The Work of The Holy Spirit".  Jesus told the disciples that it was for their good that He leaves so that He can send the Counselor. verse 13 & 14 says "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own; He will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you."

My booklet says, "Guiding us into truth in a given situation by relaying God's heart to us. (John 16:13)

"The Holy Spirit is not a ghost, apparition or fog: He is a person. Because the Spirit is a person, He can be grieved (Isaiah 63:10; Ephesians 4:30), resisted (Acts 7:51), and quenched (1 Thess. 5:19)."

Here is what the Holy Spirit brings us:
Isaiah 11: 2 "The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him- the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of fear of the Lord-"

The way to understand the Bible, is by the Holy Spirit helping you.

If you feel a nudge in your heart to do something, more than likely, it's the Holy Spirit. Just make sure it aligns with Scripture. The Holy Spirit will never prompt you to do something that goes against the Bible.

The first step to praying effectively is for us to repent of what we've done. And here is a list of what hinders our prayers....

Disobedience is what grieves the Holy Spirit in our praying (Psalm 66:18), but some specific sins that affect our praying include:

1. Not honoring our wives (1 Peter 3:7)

2. Not forgiving others (Matthew 6:12)

3. Prayerlessness (self-sufficiency) (James 4:2)

4. Selfish ambition (James 4:3)

5. Refusing God's call (Proverbs 1: 25-28)

6. Neglecting the poor (Proverbs 21:13)

7. Faithlessness (James 1: 6-7)

For some reason, we don't believe that God will answer our prayer. Why is that?

He does have His ways... either, "Yes", "No" or "Not right now". But He will answer.

Maybe it's just that we are afraid of His answer?

Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you every day in all of your ways. He will lead you. He will help you pray. He will help you stay in tune with God all day.

Staying in tune with God is what brings peace and contentment to our hearts. Also, staying in the NOW helps... don't future think. Don't try to plan too far ahead. Let God and the Holy Spirit lead you one day at a time.
