Who do you depend on?

Today is July 4th, America's Independence Day. It is the day we separated from the mother country and become our own country. We celebrate every year by being off work, grilling out, and being around family and friends.

The reason we celebrate is because our founding fathers wanted something better for us. They wanted a government for the people by the people. They wanted us to have freedom of religion as well. That's not how things are over seas.

As adults, we tend to pride ourselves on our independence. I can speak as an only child and a woman, this is something that society teaches us sometimes. We want to be independent and not have to depend on anyone else. Some single women are so head strong that they definitely do NOT want to be dependent on a man.

I believe we've got this all wrong.
This flag flies at my work.

There is someone we should be fully dependent on.

That's God.

Here is the thing, He can see the big picture. He promises that He has a plan for our lives. It's not a plan to harm us, but to prosper us and give us a hope and a future.

He has our best interests in mind.

He does not harm us.

Yes, He will lovingly discipline from time to time, but what good parent doesn't?

Being dependent on Him means that you trust Him with your life. It means you pray and ask Him to lead you. You pray about decisions you are making. You listen to His word and see what He's speaking to your heart. You let Him guide you.

Doing things on our own is fine. But it usually doesn't work out as well. I'm sure there are plenty of happy, well off, wonderful people who aren't Christians. But I bet you they aren't joyful. Joy comes from deep within our souls. It's placed there by God.

I believe we are born with a little empty space that was designed specifically for God. Sometimes we do not realize that's what it's for. We try to fill it with relationships, alcohol, sex, shopping, food, approval from others, animals, etc hoping that we will one day feel good about life.

The best way I know to feel good about life is be dependent on God.

It does not mean that your life will be perfect. Nope. Being a Christian does not carry that guarantee. What does come with it is unconditional love and an adopted family who will be there for you.

If you don't know God as your Father. Will you try to depend on Him and let Him in your life?

If you do know God as your Father, but you've gotten away and have been doing your own thing, will you come back? He hasn't left you and He will accept you back with open arms.

I declare and decree that I am dependent on God as my Heavenly Father, and I wouldn't have it any other way!
