1000 voices for Compassion

I signed up months ago to write a blog post today about Compassion. Honestly, it's on my calendar, but I forgot. I was overwhelmed with life last night and this morning.

There are 999 other people who signed up to write about compassion today.
I think that's totally amazing.

My idea of compassion might not match your's. Compassion to me, is about caring about someone else's needs.

Over the years, I have had a Compassion International child that I sponsored. The money I gave every month helped provide food and a time of church for children around the world.

That's what I believe compassion is. Seeing a need and meeting it. Actually caring enough to do something instead of sitting back and pointing fingers saying how something needs to be done.

God had compassion on us. Romans 5: 8 says, "But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Jesus even said that if we do things for others in HIS name, it's like we are doing them to Him. (Matthew 25: 31-40)

Our world is a dark place. We need to shine our light and push back the darkness. That's the only way people will see Jesus. Showing compassion is the way to do it.

I am a very compassionate person. I treat people the way I want to be treated. Even if someone does me wrong, I don't hold grudges or hate them. I realize they have a problem, not me. It's all in how you look at life. I choose to be positive and look for the good in people and situations.

Are you a compassionate person? Why or why not?
