Comparing Yourself to Others is STUPID!

Yes, yes. I said that bad "s" word.

I have admitted to struggling with the comparing game before. My weight, my looks, and my intelligence have all fallen into the categories of stuff I have compared to other women before.

My Pastor's message last Sunday was on complaining and he mentioned comparing. He said, "Comparing yourself to others and your old life is not good. You don't know what it took for someone to get where they are today!"

Some people might look at me, for example: I have a house, a car, and too many dogs. On the outside, it looks like I have it all together. Honestly, in some areas, I feel like I do. However, you might not know that my now ex husband left me as a stay at home mom with the house and car payments.

People have NO idea what I've been through to get to where I am today.

I have made mistakes since my divorce, but I am doing so well right now! I love myself, which is something I have never done.

I would be miserable if I sat here all day comparing myself to others or my old life, "Oh why did my marriage end? They are still married after 20 years." "Why did he have to leave, now my kids are being raised in a broken home?" Etc, etc..... what a waste of time!

Life is too short to look back and compare. Learn from the past, but don't dwell there.

Realize that God has a plan for your life. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that! Here is that promise, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future."

This doesn't mean that your life will be perfect, but He does have a plan if you will let Him work it out for you. (I do not believe it's God's plans for people to get divorced, that's on us. But, God does bring healing and love into our lives after divorce.)

He made you the way you are, He created you for a purpose, and He doesn't want you to waste your life thinking of what you don't have. Count your blessings and be thankful for what you DO have!

You are limitless with your life! Stop comparing it to others and live out your destiny!

  1. This is so simple yet so stinking hard not to compare yourself or your work. I recently unfollowed every furniture business page on Facebook for this very reason.
