The Places Jesus Bled, Part 2

The next place Jesus bled was the post where they flogged Him. This is what a flog looked like in Roman times.

There were bone and metal pieces on it. A whipping would have hurt, but flogging was far worse. The ends of the whip actually tore out flesh when the whip was pulled back.

This type of punishment was used by the Roman government for common thieves and murderers. 

In Matthew chapter 27, we read Pilate, the Roman governor's part in Jesus' story.. The Jewish Pharaisees, the priests, wanted Jesus killed. Pilate, after speaking to Jesus, and getting a message from his wife, did not want anything to do with the killing of Jesus. He ordered him to be flogged, then gave the crowd the choice to free a prisoner. They chose a murderer over Jesus.

This flogging that Jesus endured is a fulfilling of Isaiah 53: 4 & 5 that says this, "Surely He took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered Him punished by God, stricken by Him, and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed." 

Jesus took the beating for us. By His wounds we are healed. God is still in the miracle business. Miracles happen in an instant, healing has more of a progressive nature. 

Some people think that God doesn't do miracles anymore. But He does. Others think that God wants to teach them a lesson by making them sick. Jesus calmed storms in the Bible, He did not cause them! God is NOT sick, and He can NOT give us something He doesn't have!

Jesus shed His blood at the flogging post so that we wouldn't have to carry the identity of sickness. Thanks be to God for that!
