Being a parent is hard work!

I hope this post will reach some people. I'm sure there are not any children who read this, but hopefully some teenagers and maybe even the adult child who still needs this reminder.

Proverbs 6: 20-23 is a warning about adultery, but it can be used as a warning for anything, I believe, it says this, "My son, keep your father's commands and do not forsake your mother's teachings, 21. bind them upon your heart forever, fasten them around your neck. 22. When you walk, they will guide you, when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you. 23. For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the corrections of discipline are the way to life."

Being a parent is not an easy job. Since I've been in my new role as single parent, I realize just how hard single parents have it.

When you become a parent, your whole life changes. You should be focused on your child's well being and want to take care of them. Selfishness should take a back seat.

Kids and teenagers need parents. Not friends. They have enough friends.

We are to be instructing our children and teenagers on the right way to live. They need guidance and discipline. Then, the key is that they need to listen.

Some children think they know it all. The truth is, the older you are, the wiser you are. Most of that wisdom comes from making mistakes. As parents, we are merely trying to warn our children and help them not make the same mistakes. For some reason, some children, no matter how old they are can not grasp this truth.

I do not think you should do something that you KNOW is wrong. You should not do something illegal, even if you parents ask you to. If there is something that goes against God's Word, do not do it either. So there is a line.

Do the WISE things your parents tell you. Make good choices. Pray about things. Check with the Bible and see what it has to say about your situation. Did you know, in Proverbs, there are warnings against gangs, and Scriptures regarding how to handle money?

I pray that you will think through what you are/ were told. If you had bad parents or no parents at all, look to God as your Heavenly Father. He is there. He has written things down in the Bible to help instruct and lead you. There is still time to get wisdom, no matter how old you are!
