I am finding out that I am somewhat of a sucker for impulsiveness. This is not a good thing to be! Here is a definition:
In my Bible study this morning, I read Matthew 7: 24-27 which talks about the man who built his house on the solid foundation, verses the man who built his house on the sand. One thing I have never noticed is that Jesus said, "Everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is wise."
Ok, so I have got to not only HEAR the words, but put them into ACTION. As well as, not act impulsively. The dude who built his house on the sand acted on impulse. He was in a hurry, ready to have the house built, and went for it. But without the foundation, when the storm came, it tore his house apart.
That is just like our lives. Without prayer and seeking God's will, we act on impulse, therefore, there is no foundation to what we are doing. When the storms come, we loose footing and struggle because we aren't grounded. It's a game of balance, listening, and following God's will for our lives.
I have seen time and time again where I am getting in God's way of what He wants to do in my life. I will tell you how gracious and wonderful He is though, because even through my junk, He blesses me anyway. It's just like Him to do that. He loves us all so much, and He wants to get us on the path He has planned.... so even when we act on impulse, He puts things in place to bless us. That's grace!
The marketing people know full well that we will act on impulse if they put those candy bars and magazines by the register. They know people will pick it up last minute and throw it on the pile of whatever they are buying. And you know what? I believe God knows that too. That's why He gives us choices and chances to do the right thing.
I know this, if nothing else... I am so thankful for a loving heavenly Father who keeps getting my attention and helping me come back to Him. I feel loved, filled and whole. I hope you feel that way too. If not, what are you waiting for? Let Him move in your heart. You will be glad you did!
