Does God want us to be perfect?

I think a lot of Christians have it ALL wrong!

They think they are supposed to be perfect. They jump through hoops, bend over backwards, and believe lies from the pulpit.

God, in His infinite wisdom, knows that we are not perfect. He knew that the day He made Adam. Not only did He make Eve so Adam wouldn't be alone, but He also gave them free will.

Yes, He could have made robots. Just human beings to listen, obey, and follow Him without question. But that's not what He did.

What God wants is our hearts.

He just wants us to be fully surrendered while loving and trusting Him.

At my work, Pastor Butch talked about the heart on Sunday. He said, "The heart is the center of who you are."

Two Scriptures in the Bible that reference this are: Luke 6: 45 says, "A good man brings good things out of the good stored in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of."

And Matthew 15:18 says, "But the things that come out of a person's mouth come from the heart, and these defile him."

All God wants us to do is acknowledge Him throughout our day. Keeping our hearts set on Him, His plan, and His purpose for our lives. That is what helps us get through the junk when it comes our way.

The second paragraph in my Jesus Calling devotional says this, "When you walk through a day in trusting dependence on Me, My aching heart is soothed. Gently bring your attention back to Me whenever it wanders away. I look for persistence- rather than perfection- in your walk with Me."

God just wants us to walk with Him daily and be persistent about it.

Do you have a daily quiet time with Him? Are you reading the Bible or devotional books?

Keep your heart on Him, His ways, His ideas, and His Word. It makes a difference in your day. I promise.

  1. More and more I believe there is no such thing as perfection on this earth simply because we all have our own ideas of what perfection looks like. Jesus, the only perfect human, is our guide, yet no one can be exactly like him. I've finally come to realize that God created me for a special purpose with a unique personality for a reason. So, instead of striving to be perfect, I'll try to become a better version of me.
