The Desires of Your Heart

Yesterday, I started a discussion on my Facebook page. I want to post about it here and see what other responses I get.

Psalm 37: 4 says, "Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart."

My question is... how do you know if your desires are from God and how do you know He will give it to you?

I am not talking about some crazy desire like to win the lottery and be a millionaire.

I am talking about a desire to be in a loving committed relationship with someone of the opposite gender. A desire to adopt an orphan and love and raise them as your own. These two desires are not against God or anything in the Bible.

Actually, adopting is fulfilling one thing God told us to do in the Bible, take care of the widows and orphans.

James, Jesus' brother, wrote in James 1: 26 & 27, "26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

If our desires line up with Scripture AND God's will for our lives, I think He will bless us with it.. in HIS time. (Which is difficult to wait for.)

What do you think?

  1. I have been struggling with this for some time. I am having a difficult time with what I think God has planned for me and some of the circumstances of my life at this point.

    1. Janeen, Keep praying through! God has a plan for your life and it's a plan to prosper you, not harm you! He has your best interests at heart.
