Confession Post!

Ok.. it's confession time.

I have a hard time handling money.

I always have.

Part of it is, I don't tell my children no enough. The other part is buying food is quicker than cooking some nights when I'm busy.

I have a budget written out all the way until next May.

Now, I need to stick to it!

God has blessed me with everything I need. My job is amazing and it helps bring in extra income.I have child support and alimony (for now), and without it we couldn't pay the bills.

I know that God wants us to be good stewards of what He gives us. I am reminded of several stories in the Bible that have to do with money. I found a few Scriptures to share with you. I am working on this within myself.

Ecclesiastes 5:10 says, "Whoever loves money, never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless."

Romans 13:8 says, "Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellow man has fulfilled the law." (I have a Dave Ramsey shirt with this Scripture on it.)

Here is an awesome one!! Hebrews 13:5 says, "Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you or forsake you."

I think God is trying to tell us in that verse to trust Him with our money. As well as all of our lives, because He loves us and He is always here to watch over us.

Is this something you struggle with? I would love to hear any tips on how to wrap my brain around sticking with this. I am too old to keep messing up. I am trying though, and honoring God with everything I have. That's worth something, I'm sure.

  1. There are several things I did to help us stay within our food budget. One was meal plan, and get everything you can for the meals at one time. I used to meal plan for a month at a time, and then just pick up milk, bread, and fresh fruit & vegetables. It takes a lot of time at once, but makes it quicker every evening – look at the list and that’s what’s for dinner.

I also would finish one meal while starting another. If tonight we are having pork chops, and tomorrow we are having tacos. I’m already standing at the stove, so I’ll brown the meat, and chop the vegetables for tomorrow’s dinner (which was usually a busier evening). After the meat was browned, I drained the grease and refrigerated it. The next night I would reheat the meat and add water, and mix, while I got the taco toppings out. It’s hard to stop for food, when it’s faster to finish it than go through a drive thru. Same kind of things for the weekend, I would cook extra bacon, but not let it get crispy. Then on Monday finish crisping up the bacon for BLT’s, and a pasta salad, and a quick vegetable and dinner could be ready in about 5 minutes.

You can do it! Please let us know how it works.
