What does your heart reflect?

Did you know that your heart is a very important part of who you are?

What you think and feel comes out of it. Every day.

Proverbs 27:19 says, "As water reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man."

In Matthew 15 Jesus was teaching and told a parable. Verse 10 says, "Jesus called the crowd to Him and said, "Listen and understand. 11. What goes into a man's mouth does not make him "unclean", but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him "unclean."

His disciples told him that the Pharisees were upset with this teaching. (The Jewish culture has many rules about what to eat and what not to eat.)

Peter then said in verse 15, "Explain the parable to us."

Matthew 15: 17 says, "Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18 But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man "unclean." 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20. These are what make a man "unclean"; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him "unclean."

My Pastor always says we think, say, then do.

I think that's what Jesus meant. We think an evil thought first, we say it, then we do something with that thought.

Let's say someone hurt us, so we think "That person is terrible and they hurt me really bad." You say how much we feel hurt/ betrayed/ terrible. Then, you post on facebook what a horrible person so and so is because they did THIS to you. See, how that progressed?

You are going to get hurt. Period. You are going to feel bad. True. What you do afterwards is up to you.

What does your heart reflect?

Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control? I know mine does not reflect these all of the time. But I try every day.
